Eduard King is a photographer in Cape Town.
I'm a self-taught photographer who chose to follow the lens rather than the norm. Growing up with a father who was a professional wedding photographer, I developed an eye for the moment long before I knew what to do with it.
I began shooting in 2016 as a school sports photographer in Johannesburg. After studying engineering at Stellenbosch University, photography kept finding me: university dances, celebrations, events. Eventually, I stopped resisting it.
I understand that certain moments only come once. A single photograph may one day be the only record you have of that day. I carry that weight into every shoot.

A few favourites
Lida-Marie and Ruan married at West Nest Lodge in Gobabis, Namibia. These are the ones I keep coming back to: the run through the bush, the circle of family closing in, the quiet tear at the table long after the ceremony ended.
Eduard is great at capturing the big moments in life by immortalising the small glimpses, lingering touches and big emotions. He thinks about everything during a shoot and is excellent at making camera shy people come alive in front of the lens.

I studied engineering before I did this full time, and the useful part of that was learning to plan for what can go wrong. It means that by the time your day starts, the thinking is already done, and I can stop planning and simply watch.
